What is the GRE?

The New Graduate Record Exam (GRE) in its newest RGT (Revised General Test) version is a standardized test that’s required by universities that offer graduate studies programs in a wide array of fields, ranging from humanities, to science.

The new GRE is one of the few tests that lets you skip questions and go back to them later, as lon as there’s enough time Leith in the clock. You’re also able to decide what score will be sent to your schools of Choice. If you didn’t score as high as you needed, you can always retake the test and send the higher score instead.

The new GRE RGT consistes of three sections:

Analytical Writing

There are two essays to be written. One tests the student’s abilities to make a case based on a given prompt, supporting his/her opinion with relevant evidence. The other will provide an argument that must be evaluated and countered accordingly. The score goes from 0 to 6 points in .5 increments.

Verbal Reasoning

This section tests the use of challenging vocabulary in a given context, as well as the ability to analyze, summarize, and evaluate reading passages on several topics.

The remaining questions require students to analyze relationships between concepts and either support or undermine the reasoning behind a set of arguments.

The score goes from 130 to 170 points.

Quantitative Reasoning

This section measures the test taker’s abilities to solve problems based on several Math concepts, such as arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data análisis, as well as averages, proportions, number properties, exponents, square roots and numerical reasoning problems. The score goes from 130 to 170 points.

At The Princeton Review Mexico we’ll help you master the strategies to tackle each section of the official test. With our effectively-proven techniques you’ll reinforce vital concepts in both the Verbal and Math sections of the GMAT. Also, you’ll access our powerful website, which contains additional tools and drills that will let you review the concepts learned along the course.

The CAT System

The GRE is also a Computer Adaptive Test (CAT), which means that the exam adapts to the test taker’s performance. Therefore, it’s vital that questions are answered correctly from the very beginning. If the test taker fails to do so, the engine will adapt the level of difficulty accordingly and it’ll be very difficult to recover the lost points by the end of the test.

At The Princeton Review Mexico we’ll help you master each section of the official test and to move fluently along it, despite of the dreaded CAT engine.

The test is available all year long on weekdays and/or Saturdays. To register, click here www.ets.org/gre
