What is the USMLE Step 1?

USMLE stands for United States Medical Licensing Examination, and is a standardized test that evaluates the abilities of a physician  in the application of knowledge, Concepts and i vital principles dealing with health and illness. This knowledge and corresponding abilities constitute the foundation for the efficient and safe care of patients.

The USMLE is sponsored by the FSMB (Federation of State Medical Boards) and the  NBME (National Board of Medical Examiners). All physicians who intend to be accepted in a residency program in the United States, or study a medical specialty or subspecialty, are required to take the Step 1 version of the test if they eventually want to obtain their license for practicing medcine in the US.

The USMLE consists on three phases that complement each other and covers the Basic science curriculum of the first two years of medical school.

The test is based on the Basic principles of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pathology, Micro Immunology, Pharmacology, and Psychology. It’s also computer-based and consists of 350 questions, divided in 7 sections, 50 questions each.

The test taker has 8 hours to answer all the questions, and that includes a 60 minute break. Once a section is completed, there’s no way to go back to it.

At The Princeton Review Mexico we’ll help you master the strategies to tackle each section of the USMLE Step 1. With our effectively-proven techniques you’ll reinforce vital concepts in every section of the test.

Also, you’ll access our powerful website, which contains additional tools and multimedia lessons, plus drills that’ll let you review the concepts learned in class, such as clinical vignettes, diagrams, and slides on pathology and anatomy, including more than 40 specific drills per subject, all of which will be available 24/7.

Likewise, you’ll be able to keep on practicing with several diagnostic tests, with the same level of difficulty as the actual exam, enabling you to monitor your performance along the course.

The TPR tutors for the USMLE Step 1, are all English-speaking physicians that have passed the test with a competitive score and have been trained and certified  by us in the United States.
